Mail beta, messenger beta, photo gallery beta?

I've had Windows live apps on my machine for about a year

This last month I keep getting emails for MSN to install it in beta??

http://download.live.com/wlmail

There's no indication which version they are currently trying to flog me -
so it's impossible to say whether it's a new version or an old sales pitch

Anybody know?

Hi Jethro,

It's the newest public Live Beta release. As it is Beta, you may encounter
bugs, things that go splat and things that might not work as expected
There is a lovely bug involving custom emoticons in Messenger Live Beta -
you can't see them!

Only two versions of the Live Products are available.
The production(RTW-release to web version)
get.live.com

The beta versions
download.live.com

Re: Mail beta, messenger beta, photo gallery beta?

I understand your issue and made the same complaint earlier (see below for a
similar thread). I have had the beta installed for several weeks, but it's
impossible to tell if a newer beta is available. Gary VanderMolen stated
that the betas on the download site are the ones which have been available
for a couple of months.

Re: Mail beta, messenger beta, photo gallery beta?

The current beta downloads are the only betas available. They are the same beta, same version, without any fixes or changes,
nothing newer, nothing old, nothing borrowed, nothing blue etc.

All betas are unfinished products...installing is always your choice and at your own risk.

Re: Mail beta, messenger beta, photo gallery beta?

maybe i'm not making it clear

i wanted the version number 'before' installing it (information to help me
decide whether to install it) - most products have a version number (beta or
not)

i wanted to know the improvements = then benefit of the beta, over and above
ordinary WLM which i already have (information to help me decide whether to
install it)) - this is usually called a 'changelog' and again most products
supply one

i know what 'a beta' is - again i wanted to know of any possible benefit
anyone is experiencing over and above ordinary WLM which i already have
(information to help me decide whether to install it)

Re: Mail beta, messenger beta, photo gallery beta?

You are absolutely right.
What BETA?
Which version of BETA?
Is it BETA than BETA?
Sending photo thru e-mail in new WindowsLive Gallery BETA doesnt work for me.

I think Microsoft thoughts is: It's a free product apart from pushing Adds -
so what do you expect. Its just BETA. But I agree with they concept that
'Lets make it easier for avarage user... and the most common user' 'Majority
rules' if you need more advance staff use PhotoShop.
