I cannot install WINDOWS LIVE MESSENGER on my computer!!! Please h

I have windows vista home basic 32-bit, and i am trying to install windows
live messenger 8.5. I am able to get to the download screen on
http://messenger.live.com; however the connection seems to get lost right
when i click on install. Here is the message obtained on the screen:

Address Not Found
Firefox can't find the server at g.live.com.
The browser could not find the host server for the provided address.
* Did you make a mistake when typing the domain? (e.g. "ww.mozilla.org"
instead of "www.mozilla.org")
* Are you certain this domain address exists? Its registration may have
expired.
* Are you unable to browse other sites? Check your network connection
and DNS server settings.
* Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy?
Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.

Can someone please help me, i really need to install the software and i know
its not a connection issue because my roomate who uses windows xp was able to
install it on his laptop.

Thank you in advance!!

Re: I cannot install WINDOWS LIVE MESSENGER on my computer!!! Please h

Greetings,

Sounds like something might be up with your DNS from the sound of it.

As a workaround for now, you can just use the installer directly from here:

Re: I cannot install WINDOWS LIVE MESSENGER on my computer!!! Pleaseh

Try doing the following:
Click Start, Run..., enter "cmd", press OK.
In the appearing black window, enter "nslookup g.live.com", and press
Enter. After the command is finished, enter "nslookup
download.microsoft.com", and press again Enter. After the command is
finished, right-click in the window, and select "Select" (or, "Mark").
Now press your mouse down in the top-left edge of the output window, and
drag your mouse to the bottom-right corner, so the contents gets
inverted. Release your mouse, and press Enter. Now paste what has been
copied, in a reply here.
You can close the black window by entering "exit" and pressing Enter.

Re: I cannot install WINDOWS LIVE MESSENGER on my computer!!! Plea

Hello Marco Polo,

Thank you for pasting the command line contents here.
The output reveals that your computer "thinks" that g.live.com and
download.live.com are hosted locally ("127.0.0.1").
Are you using any kind of web acceleration software or speed proxy, and
what is the type of your web connection (Company Network, Router, T1,
Cable, DSL, ISDN, etc.)?
