Problems to reinstall Messenger

Hi there, I've been using the beta for a while, and saw today that there was
an upgrade available, tried to install it but it got stuck at ~65% so shut
down the program and now I cant reinstall messenger, tried to keep getting
the 0x8000ffff error message and when I try installing from an Msi file it
says i've got a newer verision already, and yeah the program isn't even in
the list for removal at the control panel.

Could use some help

Re: Problems to reinstall Messenger

Hi,

Messenger or the installer cleanup utility?

If the latter, you can use ZapMessenger instead:

Re: Problems to reinstall Messenger

If you're trying to go back to the last non-beta version and have been using
the beta, then you have to uninstall the entire suite of Windows Live Beta
programs.

Re: Problems to reinstall Messenger

Uninstall doesn't work. Performing Zapmessenger and reinstalling with the
Beta installation found at An attempt to reinstall via the original install
came up with the 'catastrophic error' problem, purportedly solved by
reinstalling the Beta using the program found via
http://www.groovypost.com/howto/geek...c-failure-fix/

Alas, still not working, installation shows rollbacks galore, and
Uninstallation via Add-Remove does not function more than to load.

Solution:
http://www.groovypost.com/howto/geek...c-failure-fix/

1. Run the custom setup found at the ms url via above;
2. Uninstall all Live apps in Add-Remove (not all will uninstall);
3. Remove all other Live apps with the Windows Install Cleanup program;
4. Run a check on your registry to remove the stuff left over, or run
ZapMessenger;
5. Reboot;
6. Run the custom setup program as in step 1, full install successful.

Re: Problems to reinstall Messenger

Hi,

Another solution is just to bypass the installer all together and just install what you want
of the suite yourself manually from the MSIs:
http://messengergeek.spaces.live.com...DA1!1271.entry

Although that's more of a workaround than a solution; I'm still hoping they'll actually deal
with this problem before the so-called "final" release.
