It's alright I suppose, the nacelles certainly don't do much for me - but I can accept it.
I'm trying to remain open minded about the film, but that's slowly starting to fade more as
they release more materials about the film.

The Kelvin is more a question mark for me. Nevermind the possible problems with known trek
physics and how these engines are supposed to work, but it just looks like some mutilated
federation design.

Well, five months and we find out!

actually there were mentions in previous trek about the single engine
design..

there are 2 coils in the single nacelle. the federation had some early ships
and experimental craft with 1.

I read about this after seeing the kelvin and remembering that Rodenberry
had said that you need them in pairs to achieve warp speed.

The fact that JJ abrams is not a trek fan, and more of a star wars fan is
scary... I would never put a director that is not a die hard trekkie (not a
trekker) in charge of a Star Trek film! Not even george lucas!

Warp nacelles must be in pairs. The Hermes-class ship has a single warp
nacelle, which would seem to violate this rule. On the other hand, perhaps
the interior of the nacelle has the functional equivalent of a pair of
nacelles -- twin sets of warp coils arranged side-by-side. The ship's
deflector shield system might also help with related tasks such as reducing

Saladin class
USS Saladin (NCC-500)

The Saladin class is a type of starship that originated in Franz Joseph's
Star Fleet Technical Manual. Diagrams from this Technical Manual were used
in bridge displays in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The Technical Manual
designates it is a "destroyer", and claims the first ship of this class is
the USS Saladin, NCC-500. The ship has only one nacelle.

The video game Star Trek: Legacy features a starship of the same design as
the Saladin but instead refers to it as Apollo class. This ship can be used
during the first part of the Original Series section of the game. Later, the
ship gets a restyle similar to the Enterprise-A's refit, this time with two
similar warp nacelles. This version is dubbed the "Apollo-class refit."
