| | Re: Search Enhancement Pack The only thing that I found to do the trick for now, until Microsoft comes up with the real fix, is below. After trying all of the suggestions I could find here or anywhere and even some of my own ideas I finally came up with one that worked of my own. I did this: I reinstalled it all. Then go to "start", "run" and type in "misconfig" Choose "Startup" tab Look for "point32" and uncheck the box Click "Apply" Click "Restart" After restart the window "System Configuration Utility" window will open. In that window you put a checkmark into the box that says "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when windows start." Click "OK" "Restart windows" That annoying window should now be gone. It worked for me and I'm 99% sure it will work for you. It took me awhile to find this solution. I am new at posting so, I do hope it was okay that, by accident, deleted the message I chose to reply to. Good luck everyone! P.S. I have Windows XP And when Microsoft comes up with a 'real fix', then you just do the repeat steps above only this time re-check the "point32" box, restart, only click "OK" in "System Configuration Utility" window and get the real fix from Microsoft either by Microsoft Update or however they decide they will put out that real fix, if ever. |

| | Re: Search Enhancement Pack Don't understand why MS hasn't done an update fix on this after nearly a year of the problem being reported. I, fortunately, haven't had to put up with it that long, since I've always hated anything tied to "Messenger" or "Live Messenger" or whatever monicker they stuck on it over the years - it was always a confusing pain - and I only recently opted to get talked into Windows Live; basically because they force us to go there by hobbling, incapacitating or shutting down "old" features we're used to using, like "Calendar", or making it difficult to navigate the old haunts or ways. Haf Canadian Typical MS. They coerce you over to new formats before they've got all the bugs out. If you try to seek "help" from MS, they want you to identify the product. But there is no easy way to decipher what product "Search Enhancement Pack" eminates from, other than some ambiguous program folder called "Microsoft". Even if you knew what master product was involved, they want you to pay for them helping you deal with their screwup. Too bad the company doesn't have to pay each of us by the hour for time spent trying to fix garbage like this - Bill wouldn't be so rich, would he. A few minutes spent by a savvy engineer and an express automatic update, and hours of human effort at the customer end would be saved. Ah, for that perfect a world. I will give CJconkie's idea a whirl. If there are features in that pack that are actually useful (part of Bing?), I won't lose them; just gets rid of the automatic window startup. Thanks CJ. -- hafcanadian "CJconkie" wrote: Quote: > The only thing that I found to do the trick for now, until Microsoft comes up > with the real fix, is below. > After trying all of the suggestions I could find here or anywhere and even > some of my own ideas I finally came up with one that worked of my own. > I did this: > I reinstalled it all. > Then go to "start", "run" and type in "misconfig" > Choose "Startup" tab > Look for "point32" and uncheck the box > Click "Apply" > Click "Restart" > After restart the window "System Configuration Utility" window will open. > In that window you put a checkmark into the box that says "Don't show this > message or launch the System Configuration Utility when windows start." > Click "OK" > "Restart windows" > That annoying window should now be gone. > It worked for me and I'm 99% sure it will work for you. > It took me awhile to find this solution. > I am new at posting so, I do hope it was okay that, by accident, deleted the > message I chose to reply to. > Good luck everyone! > P.S. I don't have that option. When i type in misconfig and click okay I simply get a message saying windows cannot find it? Thanks. P.s... I've tried everything else suggested on these pages and nothing else works. | | Re: Search Enhancement Pack This is about the most annoying this that ISN'T a virus that I've ever experienced. I tried both of the codes provided earlier in this thread, and I also tried to find the seago file in startup which didn't exist. I then went the "point 32" route which was last posted and it didn't exist... So how the hell do I get rid of this search enhancement pack box? As soon as I downloaded the new messenger I've had quite a few problems. One including my video card. It is a Nvidia 5200 FX and it now rejects the newest drivers from nvidia and the only ones that work are the original Dell drivers that came with the comp. Here is the hijack log....
