How do I remove Double Contacts in Live 8.5

Hi

I recently re-installed Live 8.5 and now my contacts have doubled. IE i have
2 of everyone on my list. It also doubled my "folders". The contacts are
not necessarly in the same folder as before, and not in the correct ones.

Meaning if I have a "Friends" folder, there are two of them, One folder will
have say 10/75 and the other will have 45/100 online. Some folders have
double contacts on it.

Also, some of the contacts have different personal notes or names, meaning
ill have the same person on the list twice, but I can only tell what
"contact" is the newest by that if it is posted and my memory.

Also, if someone is online and i open there "offline" contact, it jumps to
the online contact.

My one account has 500+ people. I dont want to have to go individually
through and re-sort it all after 8 years.

Help?

I have tried to view my contact list under "user > Contacts" but it shows
nothing there.

Re: How do I remove Double Contacts in Live 8.5

Greetings,

Before doing anything, you might consider removing the "Windows Live Contacts" folder for
your client. To do so, shut Messenger down and then head over the following folder;

On XP you can find this folder at:
\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft

On Vista, you'll find it at:
\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft

Where username is your Windows username. Additionally, some of these folders will be hidden
by default, to see them simply press the
Alt key on the keyboard in any Windows Explorer window to bring up the toolbar, click Tools,
then Folder Options, then the View tab, and then choose 'Show hidden files and folders'.
After click OK, they should appear with the other folders.

Re: How do I remove Double Contacts in Live 8.5

Hi Jonathan

I tried that, and it works Thank you.

BUT, ive lost my folders. I have 2 accounts, and ive done that for one of
them, the other account has 500 + people in 12 folders. ID like not to have

Re: How do I remove Double Contacts in Live 8.5

Hi Barry,

Are you sure it's just not being sorted by Online/Offline as opposed to the Categories
(called Groups in 8.5)? All this stuff is stored server-side, so you can't really "lose" it
unless it was never saved.

The sorting options can be found by pressing the Alt key on the keyboard to bring up the menu
bar in the main Messenger window, choosing Contacts, then Sort contacts by, and then Groups.
