Dynamic Backgrounds gone

Hi there, I recently restored my computer to factory settings, and I downloaded Windows Live Messenger 8.5 (or which ever was the last one, not the new beta one)

And I really love using the dynamic backgrounds...and there are none there. I can't even download them, and my friends can't even share them with me. When I try to download, it says: "Some content was not installed. Please try again later to install the remaining content."

I've uninstalled and re-installed several times, I've installed all the 89 updates my computer prompted me to do...and I've installed the new beta one, didn't like it so re-installed my current one, and still, nothing.

I've never had this problem before on this computer.

Re: Dynamic Backgrounds gone

Greetings Fawa,

Well one thing you can try is letting Messenger re-generate the dynamic backgrounds to see
what happens.

To do so, sign out of Messenger and head over to the following folder;
On XP:
\Documents and Settings\username\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger\LiveID\ObjectStore\
and on Vista:
\Users\username\Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Messenger\LiveID\ObjectStore

Where username is your Windows username and LiveID is your Windows Live ID e-mail address.
Additionally, some of these folders will be hidden by default, to see them simply press the
Alt key on the keyboard in any Windows Explorer window to bring up the toolbar, click Tools,
then Folder Options, then the View tab, and then choose 'Show hidden files and folders'.
After click OK, they should appear with the other folders.

Now once you're there, simply rename the DynamicBackgrounds folder to something else (like
DynamicBackgrounds_). After this is complete, sign back into Messenger and see if you have
better luck.

Hi Jonathan, thank you for your help, but unfortunately there is no DynamicBackgrounds folder there

Re: Dynamic Backgrounds gone

Hi,

Actually now that I think about it, go up to the previous folder and rename that ObjectStore
folder to ObjectStore_. Then try signing in again after that and see what you get.

If they do come back after that, sign out and just move everything in ObjectStore_ to the new
ObjectStore folder that will be created.

Re: Dynamic Backgrounds gone

Hi there,

I have a similar problem. I had a Dymnamic Display picture from 'wee-mee'
which I've been using for a little while. I've upgraded to the latest version
of messenger and since then when I used my wee-mee, my contacts at the other
end (who previously saw it fully animated) now only see the static first
image, and vice versa for me when they are using wee-mee display pictures
which previously I could see.

To try and fix this I tried removing the wee-mee from my WLM and then
re-downloading it. But every time I try it says the 'Some content could not
be installed' message, same as the OP, so now I have no pic at all!. I've
tried renaming the folder as described here, but it doesnt fix the problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Ian
