Re: Ports for Live Messenger

Messenger uses a variety of ports :-
5060
5061
whiteboard over TCP is 1503
File Transfer - 6891 – 6900 (TCP)
audio and video again uses a range :-
MinMediaPort Specifies the lowest port that is used for Audio and Video
signaling 5350 1024 65535
MaxMediaPort Specifies the highest port that is used for Audio and Video
signaling 5353 1024 65535

Re: Ports for Live Messenger

Greetings,

Not to debunk Colin here, but this is actually the wrong KB article. This is for Windows
Messenger/older Office Communicator and aren't correct for Windows Live Messenger. 5060 is
for SIP via TCP, 5061 for SIP via TLS, Whiteboard is the same but not in Vista anymore,
6891-6900 is the old file transfer which is no longer even supported in Live Messenger 2009.
So, this information is actually not very useful.

The voice/video ports are a tad different, but generally they "can" use all of them.

The article for Windows Live Messenger is here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960820

and interestingly has even been updated for the 2009 release.
