Vista - I can't download a new messenger

Ok heres what happened. I tried downloading the newest messenger but I
accidentally blocked access from the internet. I tried removing it and re
downloading but it didnt work. So I removed all my messengers. I tried
downloading all of them but now they won't even download. I get the error
code 0x8000ffff and it says catastrophic failure. So I don't know what to do.

As a quick fix you can download the latest released version of Messenger at the following
link and just run the MSI file to install it:
