Messanger Live .. Nothing in contact list :(

After upgrading my Windows Live Messenger i can't see any of my contacts in
the messenger though my contact list is there when i go to hotmail.com. If I
clickon Actions, Video, Send MY Webcam ... it will
show a list of online contacts (same with starting/sending anything including
a message) .. also, when a contact logs in, i get the popup for that.

The ONLY place the contacts are not showing is in my contact list.

ALSO, when I click Help, About ... nothing comes up ...

Windows XP (fresh, clean install) with a fresh clean install of windows Live
Messanger

I do not have the Msnmsgr.txt (did a search for it on all HDDs even)
ContactsLog.txt :

RE: Messanger Live .. Nothing in contact list :(

Also the Help in windows live messenger was useless...

Contacts are missing from your contacts list

If your contact list is empty or incomplete after you upgrade to Windows
Live Messenger, the cached contact list may not have updated correctly. Your
Folder Options must be set appropriately, in order to view and delete your
Contacts cache folder.

To verify your Folder Options settings:
For Windows XP

1. On the taskbar, right-click Start, and then select Explore.
2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3. Click the View tab.
4. In the Advanced Settings list, select Show hidden files and folders,
make sure Hide extensions for known file types is not selected, and then
click OK.
5. In the Windows Explorer window, click View, select Explorer Bar, and
then verify that Folders is checked.

For Windows Vista

1. On the taskbar, right-click Start, and then select Explore.
2. Click Organize, and then click Folder and Search Options.
3. Click the View tab.
4. In the Advanced Settings list, select Show hidden files and folders,
make sure Hide extensions for known file types is not selected, and then
click OK.
5. Click Organize.
6. Under the Layout menu, verify that Navigation Pane is selected.

To delete your Contacts cache folder:
For Windows XP

1. On the taskbar, right-click Start, and then select Explore.
2. Navigate to the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Your Windows logon
name\Contacts\Your Messenger e-mail address.
3. Delete all of the files in the folder.
4. Navigate to the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Your Windows logon
name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\Your
Messenger e-mail address.
5. Delete all of the folders and hidden folders in the Your Messenger
e-mail address folder.
6. Close Windows Explorer and try to sign in to Messenger again.

RE: Messanger Live .. Nothing in contact list :(

ok right and this is one of the reasons why i do not normally upgrade
versions of Microsoft products for 6 months as by then it should work
straightaway.

I received an email about the latest Windows Live Messenger from the Windows
Live Team (communications_msn_cs_enuk@xxxxxx)

I thought looks good I will give it a try

I downloaded the appropriate file and ran the installation program to
install all the products.

They installed starightaway with no errors so my laptop met teh appropriate
specs.

Now whenever I open my messenger window I have no contacts listed AT ALL! If
I want to change the layout IT DOESNT WORK!!! My profile picture is not
correct and I CANNOT CHANGE IT!!!!

So I cannot chat to people as I DO NOT KNOW WHO IS ONLINE!!!!!! I cannot
change anything as NOTHING WORKS!!!!!!

The help topics tell me to check the build version etc IT DOESNT WORK I
follow the Help --> About Messenger and NO WINDOWS OR POPUPS
OPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am extremely ANNOYED AT THIS AND AT MYSELF FOR THINKING THAT SOMETHING
WOULD WORK ON AN INITIAL RELEASE

I would like some movement on this ASAP!!!!!!!!!!
