| | Re: Error code: 8000401a Greetings Alan, To be honest I haven't had much luck in debugging when this problem occurs, as it could be caused by a variety of things. As a starting point, I would suggest you uninstall this latest version and re-installing 8.5 (2008) if you've not already done so. To do this, go to Add or Remove Programs or Programs and Features, find Windows Live Essentials and choose Uninstall/Change to uncheck/remove Messenger. You can then download and run the following MSI (Microsoft Installer) file: http://messenger.jonathankay.com/redir/wlm85.asp -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "AlanV" <AlanV@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:542FEC9B-1866-4706-B519-7312EFDAD9EA@xxxxxx Quote: > Since installing the new Windows Live Messenger I have been unable to sign in > to my ID. > > Everything else is working perfectly and Messenger was fine until the new > install. > > This is driving me nuts as I use messenger quite a lot. | | Re: Error code: 8000401a Hi Jonathan, I removed messenger 2009 and downloaded version 8.5 from your link. When I tried to install it nothing happens. I then downloaded the link from the MS site link here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en And that worked a treat. Messenger is now installed and connected to the internet. Thanks for your help. | | Re: Error code: 8000401a Hi Alan, It's possible that you somehow had a dependency missing... My 8.5 is the Microsoft one, minus the Suite executable installer part, it's not been modified in any way. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "AlanV" <AlanV@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:7D233EFF-A78B-431D-98F7-B46C85811DE3@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi Jonathan, > I removed messenger 2009 and downloaded version 8.5 from your link. > When I tried to install it nothing happens. | | Error code 8000401a? When i sign into messenger, it denies me stating that, "...Service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." Error code 8000401a I have tried to uninstall/reinstall messenger many times to no avail. I know it has nothing to do with my firewall or internet connection, as Norton and Windows Firewall are set to allow messenger and my internet connecting is perfect. How would this happen, and what can I do to fix this? I am running windows xp home on IE8 and windows live messenger 2009. Thanks for your help. =] |
