Vista - can't see myself on webcam please help

I have an HP touchsmart computer with a built in webcam. In MSN messenger I can see the other person and the other person can see me but I can't see myself. It's just a gray window with a cartoon webcam on it with a red cross. During webcam setup in MSN messenger I can see myself fine. Can anyone help please?

In the older versions of Messenger prior to the latest 2009 release, there were two options
to see the webcam in XP -- the Webcam settings option and the Audio and video setup wizard.
See if there's any difference.

Usually what you're describing is related to a driver issue, but it's odd that something
recent would have any driver issues. Regardless, you may want to head over to HP's site and
see if there are any updates.

Thanks so much for you help! I did install the latest driver for my webcam so I don't think that's the problem. Are you saying I should install an older version of Live Messenger and try again?

Hi,

Well what version are you using anyway? MSN Messenger is only available at version 7.0 which
is what you indicated you were using.

If you are using 2009, it would be worth it to use 2008 (8.5) instead as there are issues
with the video functionality in 2009.

I am also having the same problem in MSN but my cam is a Logitec 9000
When I cam with someone they see me but I cant see my own cam.
I believe the problem came in when I updated MSN or shortly after.
My cam is up to date on the drivers.

I've got this same problem now. Anyone know of any fixes, or would it be
best to just either downgrade to 8.5, or wait for WML to fix the issues?

After installing WLM9 I had the same problem - I couldn't see myself. After
reading your posts I decided to uninstall WLM and found a repair option after
selecting uninstall. After clicking on repair then re-opening WLM9 I found
that my video tab worked! It may work for you - good luck.
