Greetings Ken,
The official way is to go to the Programs and Features in the Control Panel, choose Windows
Live Essentials, and then Uninstall/Change. Then just follow the wizard to uninstall
Messenger.
If you're having problems with the uninstall, you can use ZapMessenger to remove it:
