having a problem with making a video call

I`m having a problem with windows live messenger (making a video call), when I try to make a video call my webcam image shows up on my screen but the other persons webcam image
doesn't appear on my screen? all I get is a pic of a webcam with a red cross through it, I can hear them and they can hear me, they have the same problem where my webcam image should be all they get is a pic of a webcam with the red cross through it.
If we start viewing webcams it works fine though no sound but we both can see each other? We are both running wlm 2009
Please can you help?
