LifeCam effects in Live Messenger

When I open the LifeCam application, I can apply "Effects" in the
dashboard, such as the "Thinks bubbles"

From Windows Live Messenger, in a Video call, I get exactly the same
dashboard, but the effects are ignored.

Is there a way to apply the effects during a video chat?

My colleague complained about a "buzzing", which turned out to be
interferance between my LCD and the webcam when it was positioned on top
of the LCD, but it would have been fun to apply the "bee" effect, then
say that I'd found the cause...
