| | Microsoft LifeCam and Windows Live Messenger When I use my Microsoft LifeCam 1000 with the included LifeCam application I can record videos just as if I were using a video recorder. When I use the Webcam to take part in a Video chat, the person at the other end sees me the right way around - if I hold up a book, they can read the writing on the cover. But the image that I see of myself in Windows Live Messenger 2009 (12.0.8050.1202) is a mirror image. The top of my head is at the top of the image, but my right ear is on the right-hand side of the image. So if I hold up a book, I cannot read the title, because it is now mirror writing. I can't find a setting in Messenger to swap the local video left to right. Is there such a setting? -- Steve Swift http://www.swiftys.org.uk/swifty.html http://www.ringers.org.uk |

| | Re: Microsoft LifeCam and Windows Live Messenger Greetings, This mirror effect is a now default in Messenger 2009 and to the best of my knowledge (myself and others have tried repeatedly), you cannot turn it off (unlike the previous version). -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Swifty" <Steve.J.Swift@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:eH$LtqdjJHA.4880@xxxxxx Quote: > When I use my Microsoft LifeCam 1000 with the included LifeCam application I can record > videos just as if I were using a video recorder. > > When I use the Webcam to take part in a Video chat, the person at the other end sees me the > right way around - if I hold up a book, they can read the writing on the cover. > > But the image that I see of myself in Windows Live Messenger 2009 (12.0.8050.1202) is a > mirror image. Thanks for that. I thought I was going barmy. I knew I'd seen the setting somewhere. I'll have to find some other explanation for my barminess now. -- Steve Swift http://www.swiftys.org.uk/swifty.html http://www.ringers.org.uk |

| | Re: Microsoft LifeCam and Windows Live Messenger Hi, Heh I'm sure someone who is better with reverse engineering than myself may be able topatch Messenger to not do it, as opposed to looking for an option that doesn't exist. Just may take some time. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Swifty" <Steve.J.Swift@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:OUIKCvtjJHA.5812@xxxxxx Quote: > Jonathan Kay [MVP] wrote: Quote: >> This mirror effect is a now default in Messenger 2009 and to the best of my knowledge >> (myself and others have tried repeatedly), you cannot turn it off (unlike the previous >> version). > "Knowing that something cannot be done is next best to knowing that it can be done" (One of > my better aphorisms). > > Thanks for that. Just > may take some time. with about a thousand settings. I'm sure I can temporarily mirror-image my entire display, just so WLM-2009 looks correct. I'll have fun trying to navigate back to undo the setting though. Even the mouse would go the wrong direction, in the left/right direction. :-D -- Steve Swift http://www.swiftys.org.uk/swifty.html http://www.ringers.org.uk |
