Vista - Can't see Contact Display pictures

I searched the web but didn't find a solution for my problem. I'm using the
latest WLM 2009 Build 14.0.8064.206. My problem is: i can't see my contact
display pictures in the contact list, if i start a conversation the display
picture is shown. After closing the mainscreen of messenger and reopen the
screen the picture from the contact (from the conversation) is shown in the
contactlist. After a restart of my computer, all pictures are gone again. i
tried different things to resolve the issue, also re-install didn't help at
all. I'm using vista. Ive seen on the internet that i'm not the only one with
this problem, somebody please help ?!? (sorry for my bad english- i'm just a
simple dutch guy ;-) )

Are you by chance using an application to remove your temporary files? Messenger stores
these images of your contacts in your profile's temp folder under 'MessengerCache'.

Yes Jonathan, i do use an application to remove temp files. It came
pre-installed on my acer system. I checked the folder after i started
conversation with a contact and i did see something change in that folder.
After that i used the removal application and all the messenger cache was
empty. But it doesnt explain why the display pictures from contacts are only
visible after a conversation AND only after closing and re-open the
mainwindow of messenger ? Can i somehow fix the cache-folder so the
application won't delete it ? The application for removal is: Acer
e-performance management. (by the way, the old messenger didnt had this isseu
at all)

messengercache folder. In the security settings i changed the setting for
removing folder and subfolders to not allowed for this user (my own name). I
don't know if i explain it the right way, my english is not that good.

Just to add -- Messenger won't request a display picture until you do something with a
contact (open a conversation window, etc.), they don't reload on their own. That's why the
cache exists.

After a re-install of Vista, i cant seem to get it to work again. I want the
folder messengercache to be protected from being removed. I already took
ownership of the folder, but i can't protect it from being deleted. I know it
can, because i did it before but i just don't know how i did it anymore. Can
you help me Jonathan ?
