Spanish elements of Windows Live Messenger 8.5

Greetings

Since downloading Messenger 8.5 the links that appear under the 'find a
contact' box on its active window andt the 'Today' page are in Spanish. The
'Today' page seems to be set to Argentina even though my profile's locale is
set to an English speaking country.

I also received a Windows Live newsletter on Jan 30 - which was all in
Spanish.

Can someone please help me to have all English Windows Lve Messenger ?

Thanks for the time you have taken to read this and thanks for any responses
that assist me (and others)

Enjoy your day.

Re: Spanish elements of Windows Live Messenger 8.5

Greetings,

Based on your description, it does sound like your locale is set to Argentina. However, when
you say your "profile" is set to an English-speaking country, do you mean your Windows
profile?

If so, Messenger solely makes use of the profile set in your Windows Live ID account. You
can access these settings by heading to the following URL and signing in with the same Live
ID you use in Messenger:
https://account.live.com/EditProf.aspx

Specifically, Messenger will use the information specified under the "Home" heading.

Re: Spanish elements of Windows Live Messenger 8.5

Greetings Jonathan

Thank you for your reply - how happy Iam! It worked.

However - the 'Today' page, though now in English, still shows Argentina and
I also would have thought that the Caribbean island I had set os my locale -
would be recognised as English speaking.

I know that I may have to re-post this to its relevant Office section - but
I would just like to ask something else please.

Is there any reason why the next page after activating a pre-installed
Office Suite would be in Spanish? Can it be changed to English?

Re: Spanish elements of Windows Live Messenger 8.5

Hi,

Glad I could be helpful. Unfortunately neither Messenger nor any of these other resources
generally use the Windows locale -- they use whatever you've entered in your Live Profile (as
already mentioned) or just your IP.

I apologize if I missed this, but are you actually located in Argentina (or any other Spanish
speaking country for that matter) right now? If so, this is why a lot of these web-based
things are showing you Spanish. I'm not sure which screen you're seeing in the case of
Office, but I suspect it's using this method to present you with what it thinks is the
correct language for you.

As for the Today page, in some locales' versions, there is a 'Edit City' option within the
Today page you can use to switch to somewhere else. Just as an example, it should be there
in the Canadian and UK locales, but it isn't there in the Australian one.

Re: Spanish elements of Windows Live Messenger 8.5

Greetings Jonathan

Thanks for your response.

I am in an English speaking West Indian island and so I am somewhat bemused
by the mixture of languages.

Something which is causing me great frustration, as I am unable to activate
my free Office trial Suite due to the application page being in Spanish! :-)
I hope someone from the relevant Office discussion can help.
