| | Re: routing msn messenger via proxy Greetings Bert, Messenger has two different modes of operation -- TCP mode (which is connections on port 1863) and HTTP mode (which is connections on port 80, like standard web traffic). For TCP mode, Messenger can use a SOCKS proxy. You can set that by opening up the main Messenger window, pressing the Alt key on the keyboard, choosing the Tools menu, then Options, then Connection on the side, and then Advanced Settings. For HTTP mode, Messenger will use any HTTP proxy that's set in Internet Explorer and you have to set it there. Just a quite note about authentication, Messenger will require port 443 (HTTPS) outgoing to authenticate you to the service. Both proxy methods support that. ~wave to PA Bear~ -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "PA Bear [MS MVP]" <PABearMVP@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:#HUjZ6qlJHA.5112@xxxxxx Quote: > [Forwared to WLMessenger newsgroup via crosspost] > > Joke wrote: Quote: >> My Internet Provider gives me the opportunity to route various types of >> traffic via there proxy. | | Re: routing msn messenger via proxy Is it possible to use a diifferent proxy than that set in IE? I need to use our corporate proxy server that has filtering on it for everyday browsing. This proxy blocks messenger. I have an unfiltered proxy that I would like Messenger to use. | | Re: routing msn messenger via proxy Hi, Not exactly. You can write up a batch file or something similar to set the IE proxy (via the registry or WinInet interfaces), start Messenger so it uses them, and then sets the IE proxy back. Additionally you could do this manually yourself (turn off in IE, start messenger, turn on in IE). -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Fieldzy" <Fieldzy@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:F2CC7928-3D54-47BC-8950-4CBF59837DCD@xxxxxx Quote: > Is it possible to use a diifferent proxy than that set in IE? > I need to use our corporate proxy server that has filtering on it for > everyday browsing.
