Unable to log into Windows Live Messenger when behind the firewall

I have been unable to log into Windows Live Messenger when behind the
firewall. Applications worked fine and continue to work fine from home.
Windows Live Messenger gives the error "Signing in to Windows Live Messenger
failed because the authentication service is not compatible with this version
of the program.

Error Code 8100030f

Mean While I have installed MSN Version 4.7 (4.7.3001) and it works fine
for me in both palces. Could you please let me know what is the issue
affecting connecting MSN Live Messgener Version 2009 (Build 14.0.8064.206)
and how to fix the issue.

RE: Unable to log into Windows Live Messenger when behind the firewall

Any response from MS on this? I have the exact same problem.
Found a post advising to add this to the /etc/hosts file - 65.54.239.80
messenger.hotmail.com
Is this advisable?

Re: Unable to log into Windows Live Messenger when behind the firewall

Greetings,

Well you can add it to the hosts file, although obviously if they change the IP, you would
have to change it.

However, is there any particular reason why whatever machine you're adding this to the hosts
can't resolve the IP in the first place?
