Vista - Cannot Uninstall or Reinstall Windows Live

Yesterday I decided to try out the new Windows Live Messenger after getting a message about it. After trying it I decided I prefered my Windows Live Messenger Plus! version better. So I went to trying to uninstall the new windows live.

For some reason, I can't. I've used the Run format of uninstalling it, it tells me that there isn't a program to uninstall.. I've uninstalled all programs relating to Windows Live messenger on my computer, and when I try to install WL 8.1 it tells me I have an updated version of it on my computer already and cannot install..

I tried to redownload the new version, and it says I already have it on my computer. I've restarted my computer several times and each time the new Windows Live will pop up when I log back on. However I can't sign into it. It keeps telling me the service is unavailable. Error code: 80040154

So I can't get rid of it, and I can't use it.. can someone please help me?? This is starting to feel more like a virus rather than a problem with uninstalling a messenger..

My friend and I managed to figure out the problem. Just install ZapMessenger. It removes all traces of Windows Live Messenger on your computer, without removing anything permanent like chat logs. You can reinstall your preferred version from there.
