| | Want to roll-back to previous Windows Messenger? I just downloaded the latest version of Windows Live Messenger (9). And it changed some things in my Windows Live Mail. I really do not need all the "bells and whistles", and would like to "roll-back" to the previous version. And I have multiple identities in Windows Live mail and don't want to lose any of the identities or their e-mails. Can I do this and if so..how? Thanks P.S. I have Windows XP Pro |

Two happy WLM 8.1 users. One less happy WLM 2008 user and one unhappy 2009 user... As "Jumo" we don't need or want the "bells and whistles". We all want to go back to 8.1. What are the steps and sequence for this regression?. However, it was my understanding that all versions of Windows Live Mail do not have identities support, so I'm wondering if you were using Outlook Express? As a quick fix though, you may just want to use the System Restore feature in Windows to go back to before when you installed the latest Windows Live Messenger and everything should be back to the way it was before. To get to System Restore click Start, then Help & Support, and then 'Undo changes to my computer using System Restore'. | | Re: Want to roll-back to previous Windows Messenger? Hi Lu, Yes you can downgrade to 8.1. Firstly you'll need to uninstall the version you have installed already though. You can do this by going to Programs and Features in the Control Panel. For Live Messenger 2008 it will be listed as Windows Live Messenger and for 2009, you'll have to choose the Windows Live Essentials option and then uninstall Messenger from within that installer that will appear. If for some reason you can't find it, just head over to \Program Files\Windows Mail and run the winmail program yourself. Naturally you can also create a new shortcut for it too. The amount of restore points will depend on how much disk space you have available, so it can go back only a few days or months depending on what's available and how many changes have been made to the system. Every time I try, and then sign in, it tells me that a new version is available and that I "must upgrade" to continue, and I thus cannot sign in. The new live messenger is complete crap with webcams, and I went from no issues at all to it never working. I depend on webcam for work conversations with coworkers, and I've been dead in the water trying to figure this out. If I view the network traffic with wireshark, and hammer the "Video" button, nothing happens on wireshark from MSN. It doesn't even try to make the call. Its ridiculous. Thanks. I get either this: Messenger is not available right now. Please try again later. (0x8100039d) Or This: Messenger is not available right now. Please try again later. (0x8ac70013) And I think two different error codes. They seem to be totally at random. Whatever QA at microsoft actually let this ship should be fired. | | Re: Want to roll-back to previous Windows Messenger? Hi, You can't downgrade to previous versions of 2009, 9.0 and in some operating systems (like Vista), you'll be limited to 8.1 and above. The easiest downgrade path is to uninstall 2009 by going to the Programs and Features and removing Windows Live Essentials.
