Windows Live Messenger 2009 (14.0.8064.260) sign in problems (XP S

I've seen many others posting about issues signing in after upgrading to WLM
2009. A common denominator for this issue is Windows XP SP3 users. I am
also experiencing this issue and have attempted many things, some of which
were suggested to other users.

Uninstalling or repairing the WLM installation does nothing to resolve this.
I also attempted clearing all directories and Registry entries associated
with Windows Live/Messenger and reinstalling, but no go.

The symptom is either the sign-in screen showing the spinning buddy icons
then going back to the Sign In button screen, and/or (seems intermittent)
error reporting popping up with somewhat of a generic error.

I've tried alternate accounts, as well as creating a new Windows user and
signing in from that profile. Nothing has worked.

I truly believe there is a serious bug. Standard advice/troubleshooting for
this issue provided by some has proven useless (although the efforts are
appreciated). Someone in the Windows Live Messenger team needs to work with
affected users to try and resolve this issue.

Is there anyone reading this willing to work with some of us to resolve this?

trouble signing in . she is running xp home edition on her system any

I will post it.

Re: Windows Live Messenger 2009 (14.0.8064.260) sign in problems (XP S

Indeed I have the same problem myself (xp sp3), but the only relevant post I was able to locate was this one.

The problem is exacltly the same. I press the sign in button, and nothing happens or the buddy icon spins for 1-2 seconds and back to login screen. All previous msn versions worked fine. No Internet security, zone alarm or other such programs are used and the connection test passes without a problem.

I have read that loging in with another account into windows solves the problem and I've also read the opposite, but in any case that is not always possible, such as my case as we are using a domain and therefore I can only login with my account.

I really would ask someone in MS to look into this, as effectively we've been thrown out of msn, without being able to do anything. I've tried everything imaginable, other than a format / windows reinistall (work pc...).

Many thanks,

Ilias

Has anyone found a fix for this yet? I started having this problem after reformatting my HD and reinstalling windows xp and all the services packs / updates. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times, reg edits and everything I could find in these forums. WLM 8.1 works just fine on my computer, but I really liked the layout of WLM 2009. Anyone?
