The crash error I get is, Windows Live Communications Platform has stopped working. Now, I cannot log in. Must be something conflicting, and since this release of windows messenger is too new, I cannot find a solution online. Please help... Thanks |

| | Re: Crashes Greetings, This is quite a well-known problem here and to be honest, there are thousands of possible solutions that people have found to solve this problem. Firstly, you should remove the "Windows Live Contacts" folder for your client. To do so, shut Messenger down and then head over the following folder; On XP you can find this folder at: \Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft On Vista, you'll find it at: \Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft Where username is your Windows username. Additionally, some of these folders will be hidden by default, to see them simply press the Alt key on the keyboard in any Windows Explorer window to bring up the toolbar, click Tools, then Folder Options, then the View tab, and then choose 'Show hidden files and folders'. After click OK, they should appear with the other folders. If that doesn't work, you might want to attempt to uninstall (not just disable) any antivirus or internet security software. If this doesn't solve the problem, you can reinstall it. Lastly, if you're using some sort of custom theme in Windows, switch back to the Windows default theme and see if that helps. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "viper359" <viper359@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:ABD1ACF3-F63A-42AF-B6E1-CCA00B1956D6@xxxxxx Quote: > Hello; > > Just installed, (updated) my windows live messenger. | | Re: Crashes Did Microsoft actually test this garbage before trying to get everyone to upgrade? So far, of the 30 or so people I have seen install it, it worked only for 5. ALL OF THEM RUNNING XP. I am sick of stuff like this. God, give me back my linux machines. Now the vent is over, uninstalled, reboot, reinstall, same error. No silly background programs running, nothing limiting programs access etc. Now I have to unistall again, and try to install an older version. Anyone actually have a fix for this problem yet? | Vista Home Premium 64bit | Re: Crashes Hi, I had this problem tonight when I installed the new version. I found some older info about nVidia's Forceware (which is basically their firewall solution) causing this issue with the new Windows Live. I don't run Forceware, but I do use nVidia FirstPacket which is meant to optimize network traffic. Sure enough, when I turned FirstPacket off, my problems were solved and I can now log in. And just a quick FYI, the nVidia Control Panel has a section devoted to Networking, which contains the FirstPacket stuff, among other settings. Did Microsoft actually test this garbage before trying to get everyone to upgrade? So far, of the 30 or so people I have seen install it, it worked only for 5. ALL OF THEM RUNNING XP. | | Re: Crashes Surely if there are "thousands of possible solutions" you are in fact quite clearly stating there are thousands of faults and therefore reasons this software should never been released - let alone *forced* Messenger users to upgrade. Since installing this crap over a perfectly functional version 8 I am yet to be able to log in due to this piece of worthless garbage crashing on a simple login. Downloading an "oldversion" of 8 and reinstalling now prompts me that I *must install the new version".... the new version which as we all know does not work. I too have seen this version get installed on countless machines and never yet seen anyone use it without it crashing or just not letting them log in. M$ need to get real and stop forcing this stuff on us. We were happy with Version 8 - hell, we were all happy with XP to a degree. As you further develop your software you further hinder it's users from ever being able to use it in the first place. If you were unfortunate to get hit by this propriatary download, get yourself an free messenger or just move to another IM provider. Linux rules, Mac comes a close second... and if you're a PC, your a goddamn idiot! | | Re: Crashes Here, goto the link below this reply, follow either two solutions to remove this crap of the puter, and download the older version. Don't look for help here, they stopped answering, since the standard junk lines they feed don't solve the problem. TYPICAL MS, leave it to users to solve other users problems. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...8202153AAwm3gR "The Coyote" wrote: Quote: > > Hey John, > > > Same problem as viper, no luck on any of the fixes you mentioned.
