Re: temp file

Greetings Rage,

You'll have to specify the exact path of the folder and the names of some of the files inside
to even begin to answer your question.

However, if it's the folder I'm thinking of, you can happily delete these, as you can delete
anything in your \Temp folder. However, Messenger's temporary files are used to maintain the
images of your contacts on the contact list (and won't redownload them until you open a
conversation window with each person), so I wouldn't necessarily recommend deleting it very
often.

Re: temp file

the temp folder I am refering to is in documents and settings\username\local
settings. I am having two folders in there which are messenger cache and
WPDNSE which I am told has to do with WM player 11 in the folder itself are
language files that seem to be associated with spybot but this is the first
time I have noticed it/ what my main question was is is that temp folder
supposed to be in that location or is it only supposed to be in the windows
directory. I also have a wlsetup-cvr in there.

Re: temp file

Hi Rage,

It's supposed to be there. It can't be in the Windows folder as that would restrict
Messenger to only be executed by administrators.

The folder location you specified was what I was talking about in my previous post.

Re: temp file

Hi JK,

Questions regarding -> Documents and Settings\User\Local
Settings\Temp\MessengerCache

1) What sort of files are stored there? Just users display pics or also
other graphics or file types? (For eg, does it also save other pics, such as
the thumbnail of an image file displayed in chat window prompting a user to
accept when receiving incoming file transfers?)

2) What folder location and file type do you have to look for to trace file
transfer activity and the sender/recipient of the file transfer? (Apart from
just looking at contents of My Received Files folder.)

temp file storin every min

Hey the problem is tat the temp file in messenger folder of path "C:\Program
Files\Windows Live\Messenger" get stored every single minute the computer is
on.. Size of each temp file is 10.8 MB.. so after few hours it will take my
whole C: drive memory space.. i have to delete it manually to get the memory
back. This is very annoying and i dunno why and what is causing the messenger
to store the file every minute..
Kindly solve this problem soon
Thanking you
