| | Live messenger shuts down I am running Live Messenger Version 2008, build 8.5. WinXP, with all updates. Logitech Pro9000 Webcam. Will be IMing with a friend and all of a sudden IM signs off. Then I have to close out and exit Messenger and sign back in. Will do this repeatedly every so often and then not at all for a long time. Not sure if it could be something in IM or my Linksys router or vid card or what? Any ideas? Thanks Mike |

| | Re: Live messenger shuts down Greetings Mike, After it signs you out, can you just not sign back in without restarting Messenger entirely? If you do, what happens? Just trying to determine whether you have an actual Messenger problem or just some sort of connectivity problem. As a brief guideline though, always a good idea to upgrade your router's firmware to any newer versions (if available). Also, it would be helpful to know if this just started or its always been doing this. Any recent networking changes? There aren't any specific settings in XP or in a Linksys router that would cause this to happen though. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Mike" <molson@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:7eudnfsMvpsuv0nUnZ2dnUVZ_q-dnZ2d@xxxxxx Quote: > I am running Live Messenger Version 2008, build 8.5. | | Re: Live messenger shuts down After IM 'signs out' if I open the Messenger box it is all grayed out so can not enter anything into the sign in area. My user name is there but can't type into the password area. I can't give an exact time/day that this started, but seems to run in streaks and has gotten more frequent lately. Like last night did it about 3-4 times in an hour. Was good a couple of nights ago. | | Re: Live messenger shuts down Hi Mike, If it's "grayed out", that just means that your password is saved. The sign in button will be underneath and if that's not showing, you need to resize or maximize the window. One thing I forgot to mention is you might just try resetting your Linksys router. In a lot of cases these residential routers can run out of memory and then end up displaying odd behaviour, like dropping connections. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Mike" <molson@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:FfmdnVjulJv1NEnUnZ2dnUVZ_jyWnZ2d@xxxxxx Quote: > After IM 'signs out' if I open the Messenger box it is all grayed out so can not enter > anything into the sign in area.
