| | Re: windows live messenger 8.5 installation problem Greetings, If you previous installed 2009, make sure you head over to Add or Remove Programs/Programs and Features in the Control Panel and make sure the Windows Live Essentials are fully uninstalled. If you're still having problems, you can just bypass the Live installer and install directly from the Microsoft Installer (MSI) file by simply running it from here: http://messenger.jonathankay.com/redir/wlm85.asp -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "theresaft" <tft_gram_@xxxxxx(donotspam)> wrote in message news:F1F12F47-7C35-425B-A085-48049D67EA7E@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi there anyone...I have been trying to install the live messenger version > 8.5 but I keep getting error message 0x8000fff catastrophic failure...how can > I get around this..or what can I do so I can install it on my puter... > I have windows xp professional.. > -- > Theresaft |

| | Re: windows live messenger 8.5 installation problem Wow...it worked this time! Thanks Jonathan!. I had the earlier issue (a wk ago) of the WLM2009 version failing to run like a lot of other ppl. It wouldn't uninstall either and neither would "essentials", so I was told to remove a couple of files and that allowed me to load vers 8.1 but not 8.5 at that time. Your new like provided here has finally done the trick and I've now got 8.5 running! PS ..your ZapMessenger also failed to remove the 2009 version at the time. This new link you're provided here took about 35secs and it finally told me that all old versions had been removed. Thanks again. PS make sure you stop over in Elora and I'll buy ya a beer or 3. It's only a 20 min drive mate... :-) "Jonathan Kay [MVP]" wrote: Quote: > Greetings, > > If you previous installed 2009, make sure you head over to Add or Remove Programs/Programs > and Features in the Control Panel and make sure the Windows Live Essentials are fully > uninstalled. > > If you're still having problems, you can just bypass the Live installer and install directly > from the Microsoft Installer (MSI) file by simply running it from here: > http://messenger.jonathankay.com/redir/wlm85.asp > > -- > Jonathan Kay > Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger > MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger > MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com > Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com > (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation > -- > > "theresaft" <tft_gram_@xxxxxx(donotspam)> wrote in message > news:F1F12F47-7C35-425B-A085-48049D67EA7E@xxxxxx Quote: > > Hi there anyone...I have been trying to install the live messenger version > > 8.5 but I keep getting error message 0x8000fff catastrophic failure...how can > > I get around this..or what can I do so I can install it on my puter... > > I have windows xp professional.. > > -- > > Theresaft > > |
