6 separate users - WLM forgetting signin info

Hello

Below are 6 separate user posts with the same problem -- WLM not
remembering signin info even though all the "remember xxxxxx" boxes
are checked.

Can we get an MVP to advise?

Thanks in advance, Dave

Yes i'm going through the same problem

really appreciate it if someone from Microsoft solves this problem. I found
this post regarding this problem and it seemed to work for the original
poster:

However, i dont know which files should i copy from the newly created user
profile. I copied the folders "messenger" and "windows live contacts" from
the new profile and pasted it to my current profile, but it still gives me
the same problem. I dont know which files should i copy

someone seriously please help!!

My Windows Live Messenger 2009, although I have checked "Save user profile"
and "Save password", when I re-boot my pc, it doesn't save nothing!
At each re-boot I must rewrite user and password!
I make a summary:
1) I had the version 2008, but it was the same.
2) I updated it to new version 2009, but nothing.
3) If I disconnet and shut down my messenger and then I restart it, it works
normally, without putting in user and password.
4) I don't use any software for cleaning registry.
5) I use the Windows firewall.
6) I use the software antivirus freeware "Grisoft AVG Free Edition 8.0",
regurarly updated.
7) I use the browser "Google Chrome" set as default.
8) I use "LogMeIn", but I don't think it's a problem.
9) I use "Skype" and it saves user ID and password.
I tried to create a new user for live messenger, but it doesn't solved my
problem.
What can I do?

Subject: Remembering sign-in info on Limited accounts 3/25/2009 6:33 AM PST

By: Dave In: microsoft.public.windows.live.messenger

Hello

I support PC's that use Limited accounts and have recently had problems with
WLM 'remembering' signon information. The problem may have started with
Build 2009 v14.0.8064.206 .

Users are signed in with 'Remember me', 'Remember my password' and 'Sign me
in automatically' checked. If the device is placed in Standby or Hibernate,
the user is signed in automatically when they log into their account.

However, once the device is Restart'd, the signon information is gone from
Limited accounts. How can I get Windows/WLM to remember signon information
and sign users in after a Restart?

Thanks in advance -- Dave

Messenger WON'T remember screenname/password/etc....

Anyone know how to get it to remember my screenname/password and to
start automatically when windows starts up? I've googled for an answer
to no avail, any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks

Same problems here, on XP Pro x64.

Done the check-box thing, repeatedly, also options, no help.

Would like to see some other, more useful ideas.

RE: 6 separate users - WLM forgetting signin info

Dave...there's a LOT more than just 6 users on here with the same issue
amongst many other problems with 2009 vers. There has been limited response
on these for sure. Looks like we've been abandoned doesn't it.
This version is infested with problems, mine was offline for 4 days and
still can't get vers. 8.5 running but now use 8.1 interim. This has become a
huge problem for thousands I'm sure, yet Microsoft has been strangely silent
on the problems. Lookin' more like another "Vista' fiasco....rush something
out before it is adequately tested.

Hi Dave,

I haven't been able to reproduce this problem and therefore any guesses are needles in a
haystack...

If you wouldn't mind one-on-one assistance, toss me an e-mail.

Re: 6 separate users - WLM forgetting signin info

How did you come out on resolving this one? I share the same issue.

Thanks.

Re: 6 separate users - WLM forgetting signin info

Mike -- to the best of my knowledge this issue is not resolved. On some
computers I support the signon information is retained, on others it is not.
No one seems to know why.

Re: 6 separate users - WLM forgetting signin info

It used to work fine until last 2 days. Since then, WLM start forgetting the
sign-in info after restart PC.
No program was installed.
No virus.
No hack...

Re: 6 separate users - WLM forgetting signin info

Same problem here

Version 2009 Build 14.0.8064.206
Windows XP Home with SP3 and all MS patches
IE8

Version 2009 was installed afer upgrading to IE8

I have tried just about everything I can think of

I uninstalled all Live applications, deleted relevant folders in
c:\documents and settings\<username> and installed all the latest Live stuff
again
I've tried with different options
I have quite a few years experience in support and this one has got the
better of me. Never had a single problem local to me with the previous
version

Quite happy to provide any more info such as logs etc.

Nicola
