Cannont initiate conversation

I cannot initiate any conversations with any contact. Messages are being
rejected or bounced back. If a contact initiates a conversation or during a
conversation, if I don't reply within 3-4 minutes, the messages cannot be
sent. This has been occurring for 2 weeks now. Other users are beginning to
have this problem with the new MSN. Please help.

I am running 2009 or 14.0 version. I have tried reinstalling it 3 times, but
no luck. The problem persists.

By the way, Messenger support ticketing system is unavailable. Someone
please help!

RE: Cannont initiate conversation

Adding onto the above:

I am using the computer in residence. Guessing it's an ISP? It's called
ResNet, and we need to connect a cable to the phone.

This problem did not arise after the installation of 2009. It began after a
long while. It was really frustrating at first, now I got used to it. How sad.

Re: Cannont initiate conversation

Greetings Yan,

It's either a networking problem (probably unlikely) or some sort of third-party firewall or
"internet security" software that you have installed which is breaking Messenger. If you
have any of this software installed, uninstall it and see it that helps. Then reinstall it
as that usually will reset its settings and allow you to continue normally.

As a side note, I don't believe this is new to this version of Messenger, plenty of people
have had this problem for ongoing since Messenger's inception, depending in certain
circumstances.

Re: Cannont initiate conversation

Greetings Jonathan,

So the problem will not arise again? Since I will be downloading/installing
the same antivirus - McAfee. Or do I need to follow some steps to reset the
internet security? I'll be doing that right now.

Re: Cannont initiate conversation

Hey Jon,

So I've uninstalled 8.5 msn (it's working fine), then uninstalled McAfee,
reinstalled McAfee, reinstalled 14.0. It did not work. Still telling me "The
following messages cannot be delivered", just at a faster rate.

So now I'm back to square one, using 8.5. But don't want to be bullied by
14.0. What can I do to win it? Haha~ Please help.

Re: Cannont initiate conversation

Hi Yan,

I'm afraid you'll have to redo this to really prove anything. You need to have Messenger
(14) installed, without any sort of protection engaged to verify that is in fact the problem,
as there's no point in trying anything else related to that otherwise. If it's still doing
it without McAfee, then obviously there's no point in trying to reconfigure it.

Additionally, when you go to reinstall these products, they will analyze what's on your
machine at that particular moment, so with no Messenger installed or in use, it wouldn't even
bother to set it up. Depending on what options you select when you install these types of
applications, they may immediately block any unknown traffic -- and that is why such problems
can be encountered. I do admit the latest versions of these tools over the last few years
have been certainly better at not doing this however.

Of course you could just use 8.5 and forget about it
