| | Windows Live Messenger vs. Windows XP Messenger I know that Windows XP Messenger was more oriented towards the business community, but can Windows XP Messenger (the last version or so that was available some time ago) make video/audio connections with Windows Live Messenger? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This message was sent using 100% recycled bits. |

| | RE: Windows Live Messenger vs. Windows XP Messenger I know Windows Messenger (preinstalled in Windows versions until XP), which is numbered as 4.x (current is 14.x), so i think you know older versions didn't support audio and video. |

| | Re: Windows Live Messenger vs. Windows XP Messenger Greetings, No and Yes. Windows Live Messenger 8.x has compatibility with Windows Messenger (4.x and 5.x) but Windows Live Messenger 2009 (the latest, 14.x) has removed the backwards compatibility. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Fuzzy JohnŽ" <FuzzyJohn@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:301CD042-281D-486C-BE2C-1CD01EF338AE@xxxxxx Quote: > I know that Windows XP Messenger was more oriented towards the business community, but can > Windows XP Messenger (the last version or so that was available some time ago) make > video/audio connections with Windows Live Messenger? > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > This message was sent using 100% recycled bits. > > |

| | Re: Windows Live Messenger vs. Windows XP Messenger Thanks. I did find out that while I can connect to a Windows Messenger client for basic IM functions, video will not work. I seem to get a message on the Windows Live Messenger machine that the Messenger service is not available even though I can text back and forth. | | Re: Windows Live Messenger vs. Windows XP Messenger Hi, Ah, I see, I thought you were talking about a separate issue. Like I said earlier, the latest version of Windows Live Messenger won't be compatible with Windows Messenger video, but text will be fine. The error messages can be a bit odd telling you this. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Fuzzy JohnŽ" <john@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:OSuvXhivJHA.1492@xxxxxx Quote: > I get the message at the point where I attempt to share my camera with someone using > Windows Messenger (from Windows XP). > > No problem sharing the camera with a user who runs Windows Live Messenger under Windows 7. > > > "Jonathan Kay [MVP]" <msnewsreplies@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:eir8UmXvJHA.4928@xxxxxx Quote: >> Hi, >> >> Exactly at what point do you receive this message? >> >> -- >> Jonathan Kay >> Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger >> MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger >> MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com >> Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com >> (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation >> -- >> >> "Fuzzy JohnŽ" <FuzzyJohn@xxxxxx> wrote in message >> news:ua932tOvJHA.1164@xxxxxx Quote: >>> Thanks.
