| | Re: slow transfer in messenger Hi Rage, If you're not able to make a direct connection to your contact (on a router, through UPnP, or some other interference, like a software firewall), Messenger will just send the file through the Messenger server as it sends normal text. This latter method is quite slow (intentionally). -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Rage Skywolfe" <RageSkywolfe@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:BD1F83D8-D8EE-4678-8308-3F569F1EB56A@xxxxxx Quote: > I am having very slow transfer rates in messenger. everywhere else I can get > good speeds I am on DSL and a file on messenger transfers like it is on dial > up. is there a reason for this? |

I am curious as to why it is not making a direct connection though... everything else seems to connect fine. internet pages have no problems comming up it is just things like file transfers in messenger:s "Jonathan Kay [MVP]" wrote: Quote: > Hi Rage, > > If you're not able to make a direct connection to your contact (on a router, through UPnP, or > some other interference, like a software firewall), Messenger will just send the file through > the Messenger server as it sends normal text. | | Re: slow transfer in messenger Hi Rage, Well a web page is just an outgoing connection to a web server, which returns your web page. File transfer, voice, etc. are peer to peer connections which mean you need both outgoing connections to work and incoming connections. Messenger does make use of several tricks to get around various blocks to these incoming connections (like UPnP), but it's really down to your networking configuration and scenario for these things to work. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Rage Skywolfe" <RageSkywolfe@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:C25D01B5-5B89-478C-99F1-7E032E65C63E@xxxxxx Quote: > ok..
