Added new contact address & now always offline?

Hi,

I have just installed the latest version of Windows Live Messenger, and at
the same time, one of my contacts updated their email address. I added the
new address, but now they always appear offline, as I do to them, and I am
now unable to message or webcam with this particular contact. I have tried
deleteing both contacts and re-added them 1 by 1, but to no avail.

Is there something I need to do, in order to be able to see them online +
message and webcam again?

Thanks for your anticipated help.

Re: Added new contact address & now always offline?

It seems to be a COMMON problem with the new version of WLM. I have the
exact same problem with one of my contacts...have done the delete, re-add,
had them add me, etc...the offline status remains though...even if we are
having an IM conversation that the other person initiated. Hopefully there
will be a PATCH soon.

Chris

Re: Added new contact address & now always offline?

Greetings,

You're both on the right track, but the problem with this delete/readd is that it really
won't re-establish the "relationship" between you and your contact(s).

To do that (and which commonly cures this odd problem) is both you and your contact need to
remove each other. After that, you need to go into the Options by pressing the Alt key on
the keyboard to bring up the menu bar, then Tools, then Options, and then the Privacy
category. Find the contact you just deleted on the list, right-click on them and choose
Delete. If this Delete option is not available (grayed out), your contact hasn't removed you
from your contact list. If you've waited awhile and it still grayed out, sign out and back
in for a quick refresh.

Finally, after this is complete, you can go ahead and readd the contact in question.
