| | Re: hotmail not linking with messenger Pick one: Vista or Vista SP1? (Right-click on My Computer & select Properties to see the version) Pick one: Internet Explorer (IE) 7 or IE8? (Click on IE Help | About to see the version) If you're running IE8 now, did this problem only start after you'd installed it (which would have been sometime on or after 28 April 2009)? | | Re: hotmail not linking with messenger Hi, Princess. What PA Bear means is that, any time you need help from these newsgroups, you must remember that we cannot see your computer. ALL we know about it is what you tell us here. So far, that's not much. :>( Quote: Quote: Quote: >> >> Windows version? IE version? WLMessenger version? on Windows XP, Vista and the new Windows 7. These come in several versions, and WinXP and Vista have had major Service Packs released which changed the original operating systems in significant ways. What we would advise for Windows XP Home Basic RTM (Released to Manufacturing - in other words, the original WinXP with no updates) might not work at all for Windows Vista Ultimate x64 SP2! So please tell us exactly which version you are using. If you don't know, just press the Windows logo key, type in "winver" and press Enter. If your question involves the browser, please also tell us which version of Internet Explorer (IE) you are using. WinXP shipped with Internet Explorer version 6; Vista started with IE7, and Win7 has IE8. Both WinXP and Vista should have been updated to IE8 by now, but please tell which one YOUR computer is using. To find out, start IE and click Help | About Internet Explorer. And, in this Windows Live newsgroup, please tell us which version of each Live component you are using. This can be the most confusing because "WLM" can mean either Windows Live Mail or Windows Live Messenger, so we often use "WLMail" or "WLMsgr" to distinguish them. Your original post was to "windows.public.internet.mail", so our first guess was that you were asking about WLMail. You started with a mention of "msn\hotmail", then "the mail link of msn messenger", then "open up my emails"... By this time, you had us pretty well confused! So that's why PA Bear asked for your versions of Windows, IE and WLMessenger. You responded with "windows live messenger, the latest one." But "the latest one" is a moving target - like "tomorrow", which never comes. It would clarify things a LOT if you would say you are using "Windows Live Messenger, build 14.0.8064.0206" - or whichever build number you have. Here again, the programs have changed from one build to the next and what is good advice for one won't work for a different build number. To find out, start WLM (either Mail or Messenger) and click Help | About... Quote: > im not exactly a pro at this, used msn/hotmail for years". None of us were born knowing about computers. So we had to learn enough to explain our problems well enough that someone could help us. In "years" of using Hotmail, you should have learned enough for that. Quote: > hence why im here we can't see your computer, so you MUST tell us enough correct information that we can help you. You can plead ignorance - or you can get help. It won't be easy to do both. | | Re: hotmail not linking with messenger Further diagnostic questions & tests: 1. Before these problems started, did clicking on an email (MailTo) link open your browser to a Hotmail page? 2. Is FireFox or any other alternate browser installed? 3. If you click on the following link, what (if anything) happens? => name@xxxxxx 4. If you right-click on the following link & select "Open in new window", what (if anything) happens? => www.hotmail.com PS: I've pinged a Messenger MVP to see if he can assist us here. -- ~PA Bear "Princess C" wrote: Quote: > im using sp1 and ie8. only downloaded ie8 a few days ago but this problem > been happening for weeks, so un-related. thanx > > "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: Quote: >> Pick one: Vista or Vista SP1?
