Re: Error 80040154 - still having problems

Greetings David,

The error code means that it's trying to reference something that isn't there/registered, the
XML library (v3 and v6) is just one of the possible (but common) products this could be
happening.

That said, does this appear when you start the application or when you try to sign in?

I get a "we can't sign you into Live Messenger" dialogue box - "service is
temporarily unavailable."

Re: Error 80040154 - still having problems

Hi David,

Gotcha. I've put together a little application which will re-register all registerable COM
objects for Messenger. I've tested it a bit, but obviously I can't guarantee it will fix
your particular problem.

Before you get started, I'd suggest you create a System Restore point, just to be safe. In
XP, you can do so by clicking Start, then All Programs, Accessories, System Tools and then
System Restore.

You can then download the tool here:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/dow...gister-0.5.zip

Just open up the zip, run the executable and choose Execute. The .NET Framework 2.0 is
required for it to run, but since you have an up-to-date installation, you should already
have it. If not, you can install it from the following link rather quickly:
http://microsoft.com/downloads/detai...D-AAB15C5E04F5

After it's done registering, restart Messenger if it's running, and try signing in again.
