Since installing the update for Windows Live a couple days ago, the above
options are no longer available when in a chat box. I have tried repairing,
uninstalling and reinstalling, but nothing works.
Any suggestions please would be great.
Thanks.

Greetings Ruth,
I assume you mean the update to Windows Live Messenger 2009 (and the rest of the suite)? Are
the options there (but just grayed out) or are they just missing?
Before you answer those, there's one thing you should check. First open up a conversation
window, press the Alt key on your keyboard to bring up the menu bar, choose Tools, then Show
Toolbars, and finally verify that Formatting is checked. If it isn't, click it to turn it
on -- that should bring back the toolbar with those icons on it.

Hi,
I have the same problem Winks are grayed out, and there seems to be no way
to get them going. I am able to go into Kiwee and play the winks before
downloading, i.e. Flash is working properly.
This seems to be a bug. I tried your solution of using the alt key and
making sure formatting was enabled, but the error does not seem to be there.
I suggest this be explored carefully. I travel a lot throughout the globe,
and use messenger to communicate with my family at home. The only advantage
of Windows Live over Skype for me are the winks - they are a fun way to liven
up a conversation over long distances. However, with that feature gone, it
would seem unnecessary for me to have two instant messenger services
installed on my machine, especially since all of my professional contacts
reside on Skype.
I.e. Please, please fix this problem....

upgrade with Internet Explorer. The animation worked on Adobe website but
nudges and winks are still GONE. Formatting is selected in toolbars. Nobody
seems to have the answer to this one. AQll my friends have the same trouble.

I have exactly the same problem and all toolbars are turned on. Icons are
there but not active in either dropdown or icon.

Greetings Jerry,
Which locale/country is your Windows Live ID set to (this information can be
found at http://account.live.com under your home address settings)?

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I have the same trouble. I liked the nudges to wake up my kids online, who live in a different state. Not sure exactly when it stopped working, but it was after one of the dreaded Tuesday window updates. Winks and nudges icons are greyed out and unuasable. My config shows that I have the show and use winks and nudges on.

winks...make sure he box is checked then press ok...if that doesn't work
