Windows Live Messenger 2009 cuts off my internet

Hello I'm having a weird problem here, it started yesterday, all was fine and
all of sudden I lost my connection fully, not only that, I couldn't even
access to the modem's configuration page even when I was getting the ip
address for the connection correctly, I mean no limited or null conectivity
errors at all.

I realized that this was when WLM 2009 was connected, I ran it and logged in
and during a bit of time all was fine and then all of sudden I lost all the
connection, I couldn't open any sites at all, nothing.

But as soon I closed WLM the connection returned.

So I want to know what's going on since this isn't a normal thing to happen.

I didn't had any problems with WLM 2009 till this happened.

Any help will be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Re: Windows Live Messenger 2009 cuts off my internet

Greetings Daniel,

Have you power cycle/reset your modem and/or any router in your network after this happened?
Messenger has been known to cause such devices (and sometimes itself) to freeze if they don't
interpret some of the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) broadcasts properly. Since you haven't
had the problem before, a reset may do the trick in fixing it.

Re: Windows Live Messenger 2009 cuts off my internet

I did resetted the modem but even when I did the steps to cycle/reset for
some reason it retained the settings such as the name I gave to the wireless
connection and the password as well other settings, hours ago that I got the
connection working I did managed to enter in the router/modem (it is a
wireless/wired modem that has router function) and from there I did a restore
to factory defaults reset and so far it seemed it did the trick.

Like a doctor would say, the patient will be still in observation, if
nothing happens then guess the issue got fixed.

Thank you very much for your reply, I'll reply again if something comes up.

Hi Daniel,

Glad to hear it. May I enquire which manufacturer/model/firmware version the device is?
