| | Missing contact list issues Like many others I seeing issues with contact list under live messenger 2009. I am a system / network admin and on the network I am in charge of 2 computers so far as showing this problem after upgrading them to the newest version of messenger. When the user logs in they do not have their contact list, however it works fine under 8.5 or windows messenger. New contacts do not show up either after being added. If I log in to my machines running wlm 2009 it works just fine. If I log into their machines, I too do no see my contact list. So i know the issue isn't with the contact list as they work fine on other machines. I have already tried to uninstall and reinstall the program. I have tried removing the folders from the contact folders as the help suggest. I have tried using both the web installer and the full installer for installing the messenger software. This seems to be a very common issue from what I can see with nobody being able to find any real solution. Has anyone actually found a way to fix this? |

| | RE: Missing contact list issues It looks like others have marked this as helpful which I take it means they also are still having this problem and yet no response from anyone about how to resolve the issue. I have tried a few more things. I noticed that on the machine having issues, the contact folder and live messager contact folders where not automatically created by the software. So I tried to copy this both from a machine where the contacts show up. This did not work. I tried to export the list of contacts from the on that works. then import them into the none working one. This allowed them to show up as being allowed, but they never showed up as actually being contacts. After logging out and logging in they no longer showed up anywhere again. I tried logging into the none working one then logging into a machine where it works so that I was logged in on two different places at once, as I have seen somebody say this fixed it for them. This did not work. I tried logging into the working machine first, then the non working one, this did not help either. I'll keep trying everything I can think of, hopefully somebody from support will respond at some point. | | RE: Missing contact list issues MISSING CONTACT LIST - not our fault I have since been onto Microsoft tech support and there seems to be a problem with Windows Live Mail and Messenger, version 2009, but only with laptops. As I mentioned it all worked on my desk computer, but I could not see my contacts on my laptop. They are aware of the problem but suggested I went back to 8.5 (2008) version. I took off 2009 and put 2008 back on and all is fine. So don't anyone try to change your computers. WAIT until Microsoft sort out all the glitches to 2009 before installing it. Thanks everyone. I will stay with 2008 for the foreseeable future. | | RE: Missing contact list issues It isn't only with laptops though. In my case both of these are desktop computers that I have noticed the issue with. My laptop works just fine. There isn't anything that should be different between a desktop and a laptop that should cause the issue. Whatever this problem is it seem to be random at what it will effect. All of my own machines at home work just fine. These two here at my office do not, however many others do work just fine. | | RE: Missing contact list issues Had the same problem. Emailed tech support and they said they knew of the problem and was trying to figure it out and to downgrade to 8.5. That was months ago, seems like they cant figure it out or do not care enough about the problem to actually find a fix. | | RE: Missing contact list issues I over this last week have had problems with the new messager and no contact list showing when ive reformatted my desk top pc. i have emailed tech support they are now saying that there is a problem with a folder in the programe and are looking at ways to sorting it (believe them at your own will) I have been told to carry on using 8.5 but as many of you will now know they wish everyone to be using the 2009 messager very soon! i lhave found out via users of laptops that yes while there was a problem trying to use messager on their systems this now seems to have been fixed and its moved the problem to desktops. I also think as so many more do that this is a plan by windows to get everybody to upgrade to of the following: WINDOWS VISTA WINDOWS 7 (which is coming out end of October 2009) Good luck all they can't or won't even give me a date when they expect to get this problem sorted "dread" wrote: Quote: > Had the same problem. | | RE: Missing contact list issues Has anybody been able to solve this yet ?? I see that there has not been an update for over a month !! I see that it is not a problem with a particular machine !!! I log in with one id and I dont see any contacts, I had added a couple of contacts and I see only them on my contact list !! When I log in with a different id I see that everything is ok with the contact list !!! Is it that you have a problem when you log in to a machine with a particular id when u install the full Windows Live suite of program .... Will it be a good idea if I uninstall all the Windows Live programs and check if it works with the older version !!! |

| | RE: Missing contact list issues I think over the last two days I have done everything everyone has suggested with the exception of going to a third party app. Still no contacts. This is clearly a problem that needs more attention and support. I downgraded to 8.5 and it forces you to upgrade. that oprtion appears not to work. Microsoft should pay whoever figures this one our nicely. They have shut down a major collaboration tool that is crtical to virtual teams.
