WLMessenger and Proxy

It appear that i can't post attachments here.. so.. i re-post without it

--------------------------

This is my all time problem

At work, employees are not allowed to use WLMessenger, see YouTube webpages, etc, etc.. so there is corporate firewall. Some people (like me) still need that blocked stuff, so there is a Pc that runs out the firewall. That pc has a proxy, so we can use it with credentials

Wen i use it, I can see every webpage that i want on Internet Explorer and Firefox. I can use WLMail (Newgroups, Email and Rss) and Weather gadget (yes, the gadget ask me my credentials and works)

Regard instant messaging i can use Digsby and aMSN.. but can't use WLMessenger

I have this problem since MSN Messenger 7.1 and (i guess) that was the time for the IE proxy integration

Now, i install MSN Messengr 7.0 (must be elevated as admin and Vista compatibility) and just can't login. It shows the "A newer version is available" dialog, it dissapear (the dialog) and just freeze the app

The error is the classic 80072745

If the proxy were the problem then i was unable to use it at all

Re: WLMessenger and Proxy

Hey SuNcO,

I believe 7.5 did add the current proxy integration (there was no 7.1).

7.0 isn't supported on Vista at all, but it does work. However, you do not need it to run as
administrator rights. Simply popping open \Program Files\MSN Messenger and setting the
compatibility to msnmsgr.exe to be XP should be good enough.

If that doesn't work, perhaps other options might be advisable, like turning off IE proxy
option prior to loading and signing into Messenger and then turning it back on (this can be
done programmatically rather easily, assuming there's no GPO or registry permissions set to
block this from happening).

Re: WLMessenger and Proxy

Hi SuNcO,

It should be the same on Win7, although I haven't tested it personally (and can't just at the
moment). But, if the executable is in XP compatibility mode on Vista, you don't get the "new
version" dialog.
