| | Windows Live messenger (again from the looks of the other posts) Ok. So you know that once you have tried logging in with windows live messenger, the application goes- "Windows live messenger has stopped working, a problem caused the program to stop working corrently. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available" - Upon clicking on the new pop up from an icon on the bottom right of the screen i am forwarded to the *windows help and support center* Which explains that DEP "Data Execution Prevention" has closed windows live messenger to *help protect my computer* (piece of s***) *quote from help and support* = What is Data Execution Prevention? Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a security feature that can help prevent damage to your computer from viruses and other security threats. Harmful programs can try to attack Windows by attempting to run (also known as execute) code from system memory locations reserved for Windows and other authorized programs. These types of attacks can harm your programs and files. DEP can help protect your computer by monitoring your programs to make sure that they use system memory safely. If DEP notices a program on your computer using memory incorrectly, it closes the program and notifies you. = I am using Vista Home Premium, with the latest windows live messenger (8.1 I believe) Thing is, windows live messenger USED to work (2008) on this same computer before a virus hit and forced me to erase everything back to factory settings. Help. |

| | Re: Windows Live messenger (again from the looks of the other posts) Greetings, Is this an Acer laptop by chance? If so, the issue is the Acer eDataSecurity which would've come back when you went back to factory installation. Just uninstall it and you'll be good to go. Additionally, the latest version of Windows Live Messenger is 2009 (version 14), there's also been 2008 (8.5), 8.1 and versions prior to that. You can grab this latest version at http://get.live.com/messenger. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "helpmeplease898" <helpmeplease898@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:FEA226A7-8CC5-434A-8DE3-335D10F946B2@xxxxxx Quote: > Ok.
