| | Re: Deleting old contacts on an old computer Greetings Wendy, Messenger contacts are stored on the server and per account. so you really don't have to "delete" them from an old machine. If you do delete contact(s) from your account (on any machine), they will be removed from your account and will be gone on any computer you sign in on. I suspect that's not what you mean by your question. Is it that you want to remove some of the names in the sign-in list in Messenger (you can just select each and choose 'Forget me')? or do you want to remove contacts from the Privacy Allow/Block lists (don't worry if you don't know what this is)? or are you looking for something else? -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Wendy" <none@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:#8JaTFa$JHA.5040@xxxxxx Quote: > Can someone tell me how I safely delete all of my contacts in Windows Lives Messenger on an > old computer??? > > Thanking you kindly > > Wendy |

| | Re: Deleting old contacts on an old computer As a slight add-on to this, if you have selected to save chat transcripts or have downloaded attachments to chats then these are stored in Documents/My Received Files. If you are looking to clean a PC before giving it to someone else, then the only safe way without replacing hardware is to securely wipe the hard drive (this can take hours or even days depending on the wipe used and HDD size) and to reinstall Windows from scratch. This way you know you haven't forgotten to delete something and those you have deleted won't be easily retrievable using file recovery tools.
