I looked at the even viewer and here is the the error message: The description for Event ID ( 1000 ) in Source ( Windows Live Messenger ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: msnmsgr.exe, 14.0.8064.206, 498cf586, unknown, 0.0.0.0, 00000000, 0, 020e947d. The Windows Live version is 14.0.8064.0206. |

| | Re: Windows Messenger Crashes Greetings Nick, Just as a first thought, it sounds like one of the dependencies may have been broken. If you haven't already, head over to the Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel and remove Windows Live Messenger (it's under the Windows Live Essentials in the list). Once that's complete, re-install Messenger (http://download.live.com) and see if that solved the issue. -- Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Nick" <Nick@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:9EF6B419-8EE4-4DE8-B92E-DF2609FE4770@xxxxxx Quote: > I have Windows XP Service Pack 3 on my laptop.
