Vista - "Could not open key" - WLM 2009 Installation error.

Hello, I was wondering if you could help me solve a problem I came up with
while trying to install WLM. I did some research, tried MANY fixes (Manually
deleting all traces of previous versions, resetting registry permissions,
etc.), but none actually worked.

The error I receive while trying to install Messenger.msi is the following:

Also tried with the Windows Live Essentials Installer, the error in this

Please help me out, I don't know what else to try. Thanks in advance, any
help appreciated.

Finally, after hours and hours of research, I found the fix at a site not
related to WLM:

Long story short, reset permissions by entering the following command on a
prompt:

Command: secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db
defltbase.sdb /verbose /areas REGKEYS

Then you can delete the keys that are causing the problem, and in that way
the installer will work.

Hope this helps people with the same problem, because I spent valuable time
looking for this

Brilliant. Thank you for this - it works on Windows 7 x64. One note -
there were some unrelated errors logged during secedit, most likely due to OS
versions.
