| | IP ADDRESS FROM MSN I got another question I forgot to ask before. Ive been told that is really easy to get another persons IP Address for just establishing a conversation in msn with them, is it true? It sounds wrong that its so easy to be chatting with someone and look at their IP Address just like that. If its true, is there a way to prtotect against this in order to protect my privacy? | | Re: IP ADDRESS FROM MSN Greetings, Yes and no. There's a lot of factors involved with whether your IP might be seen by a contact, what features you're using, which version of Messenger you're using / they're using and so on. Although I can't guarantee it completely, with just basic instant messaging, most if not all connections just flow through the Messenger server. If you're paranoid, you can just set the built-in Windows Firewall in Windows not to allow Messenger. As the Windows Firewall only blocks incoming connections, it should at least force everything through the Messenger server. However, again, no guarantee that the IP address won't be revealed in a file transfer request or something. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "GGG" <GGG@newsgroup> wrote in message news:7AAAF0CB-56ED-41B2-AE0F-38596044A180@newsgroup Quote: > I got another question I forgot to ask before.
