Reverse the forced upgrade decision !!

I cannot log in to my messenger anymore thanks to Microsoft and the forced
upgrade.

This has got to be the most stupid decision from Microsoft as it now leaves
me and many others with no solution. The newer versions of Messenger do not
work which is why I have been using 8.1 quite happily for some time.

If there is a security, provide patches for versions that people are using.

How can you force people to upgrade when the newer software is full of bugs
which causes more issues than previous versions.

I have version 14.0.8089.726, and have not encountered any bugs. Possibly
because it is so rarely used, and never with web cam, and more rarely with
file transfer. I am reasonably certain there was an 8.5 I was using for a
while. And I don't recall encountering a version which did not work right.

Re: Reverse the forced upgrade decision !!

Hi,

There are some legitimate (and even confirmed) showstopper bugs in 2009.

Like when no contacts show up for instance.

Re: Reverse the forced upgrade decision !!

Good Morning,

Can you please confirm if there is a work-around? Are we simply at the
mercy of MS and the decision that all users must upgrade? My employer does
not allow upgrade to this version across the enterprise. Please advise, as I
(personally - and am sure this is wide-spread) am now unable to communicate
with colleagues and vendors.

Thank you.

RE: Reverse the forced upgrade decision !!

I know there are security issues in older versions of messenger, but why no
patch for it? I didnt want a new version, was happy with 8.1 and don't like
the fact that i am being dictated to by microsoft to use another
version....when i purchased windows it came with messenger, i purchased it as
part of windows, please can i have a refund as i cannot use the product i
originally purchased?

forced upgrade isn't nice...will be using another client too unless this
buggy 2009 version gets sorted soon...not happy

Re: Reverse the forced upgrade decision !!

Hi,

Not really - at least not without some new executables. There's of course using other
applications off a USB drive or similar, or using a web-based Messenger.

It might help what best to advise if I knew which version you were using up till you were
blocked though.

RE: Reverse the forced upgrade decision !!

I don't know if some of you are having the same problem, but I'm using
windows xp and I'm on a laptop that ran 8.1 just fine... this FORCED upgrade
not only bogs down my computer a bit more, but the sound when in a call is
nothing short of horrible.

I'm definitely going to switch to something that doesn't force me to do
anything.
