| | WLM losing messages between nodes Hi, I use WLM on several computers within the same network. LAN/WAN is behind a Linksys router (DD-WRT with uPNP enabled, QoS disabled) which is behind a T1 router. Sometimes, when a PC tries to IM to another PC, the message gets lost. Neither sender nor the recipient see any errors, and they are both online. Many times we double-send the important messages just to make sure it arrives safely, and usually at least one of them make it. The issue is sporadic and I could not isolate it. Client PCs run on Vista Business 32 with Live Messenger 2009 on them. Any clue on what could cause this, and help how to troubleshoot is greatly appreciated. Thank you Deniz |

| | Re: WLM losing messages between nodes Greetings Deniz, Assuming you're both using the latest version of Messenger, you should actually be getting some sort of "not received" message, although in some cases it can take ~5 minutes for the message to timeout. However, out of curiosity, are either of you signed in as "appear offline" while this is happening? Messages in appear offline are delivered a little differently. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Deniz" <deniz.turkmen@newsgroup> wrote in message news:43cc1c02-f798-4862-90e3-82a63d844b1c@newsgroup Quote: > Hi, > > I use WLM on several computers within the same network. Quote: > > Thank you Quote: > > Deniz Thank you for your prompt reply. We do not receive any 'message cannot be sent' error. This is the most frustrating thing - we think the message is delivered but in reality it is not. And yes, the nodes are always online. I double-checked the versions of different messengers, some of the build number are slightly different. Some are 14.0.8064.206 while the others say 14.0.8089.726. Would that cause this type of problems? I will update them all and see if that helps. Deniz |

| | Re: WLM losing messages between nodes I am having the same problem. The problem started when I moved my computer from the network at work to my home. I am now connected to the internet through a linksys wrg54g router attached to a broadband cable modem. Additionally, I am connecting to my network at work using a cisco vpn client. The VPN and my network are the only 2 things that have changed since this problem started. Could linksys routers be the problem here? I have suspected this router of blocking my connection to other servers since I got it. Ever since I swapped out my belkin for the wireless linksys, Halo has intermittently been unable to contact its server, and a slew of other websites just refuse to load. If I can find my old router I'll try it out and see how messenger does for a couple weeks and post back. | | Re: WLM losing messages between nodes Come on Jonathan! You know that the dropped messages bug has been happening for months now. While it might be related with routers dropping messages, its still a MSN bug as there are no errors. | | Re: WLM losing messages between nodes I'm also having the exact same problem. I'm using a Linksys BEFSX41 router with a 54g wireless adapter. The two computers I'm communicating with are on the same desk and are constantly dropping messages. Very frustrating. "xr280xr" wrote: Quote: > I am having the same problem. | | Re: WLM losing messages between nodes It is definately a WLM bug. It just started happening to the majority of people reporting it with one of the las couple releases. The WLM team will get the hint sooner or later if everyone does what I did. Switch to Trillian/Astra. My whole office switched. Same hardware, no problems. A messaging client that can't message is just an advertisement. | | Re: WLM losing messages between nodes This same thing has been happening to me as well, ever since the latest WLM "upgrade". I will take the advice above and switch to a different client, this is just complete BS. My coworkers and friends and family think we are all ignoring each other. |
