| | Cannot uninstall Windows Live Messenger off a Vista system I have tried uninstalling Windows Live messenger multiple times, it says it has been uninstalled but I still see it in Add/Remove programs. I have tried downloading it and reinstalling it but keep getting the following error: system error details code 0x8000ffff Description: catastrophic failure I read a few articles from this forum and tried to do installes from some of the links but it tells me that I have a newer version on my system and it then says that I should remove it. Need some guidance on this. |

| | Re: Cannot uninstall Windows Live Messenger off a Vista system Greetings, Yes, anything you find will be old versions. Is this during the installation or actually starting Messenger itself? Assuming the former, you'll need to go back to Add or Remove Programs, and remove all Windows Live Essentials products, reboot and then try the install again. If it still fails -- you can run the installers (for the latest versions) directly from my blog, bypassing the Live Installer: http://messengergeek.spaces.live.com...DA1!3332.entry -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "G" <G@newsgroup> wrote in message news:1F71CEE6-CB3C-4BCF-A435-A179E2463A34@newsgroup Quote: > I have tried uninstalling Windows Live messenger multiple times, it says it > has been uninstalled but I still see it in Add/Remove programs. > I have tried downloading it and reinstalling it but keep getting the > following error: > > system error details > code 0x8000ffff > Description: catastrophic failure > > I read a few articles from this forum and tried to do installes from some of > the links but it tells me that I have a newer version on my system and it > then says that I should remove it. > > Need some guidance on this. > > |

| | Re: Cannot uninstall Windows Live Messenger off a Vista system Hi, You can't install or uninstall these products in safe mode as they use the Windows Installer, which is not available in safe mode. Just "deleting" files won't help as you'll end up having to use ZapMessenger to even get the install started. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Ash Vista" <guest@newsgroup-email.com> wrote in message news:425cb3452b82c34574e15c79ac84bf06@newsgroup-gateway.com...
