Greetings Lee,
I don't believe this is really related to Messenger. It sounds like an Office Service Pack
(or some other office update) is trying to install, but is failing for some reason. Excel
then attempt to repair itself every time it's restarted.
As such, you might want to repost the problem in the Office or Excel group, as there's
specific MVPs for that purpose and they'll know far more about how their updates work than I
do (without researching it extensively anyway).
I can't think of anything in Messenger that's related to Office, with the small exception of
Outlook using the Messenger API, but that doesn't install anything for that.
