Vista - Windows Live Messenger

Hi All,

Microsoft are currently forcing upgrades to Windows Live Messenger to
address a security issue, among other things (http://

I've got quite a recent version (14.0.8064, earlier this year)
installed on quite a few PCs, and I'll have to upgrade them all.

I don't like using the WLSETUP.EXE method, and I only use Windows Live
Messenger.

If I
- installed the latest version of Windows Live Messenger on a
separate PC
- extract the Windows Live Installer from C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Windows Live\.cache\...
- on the PCs where I've got the old version,
- uninstall the old version, for example using MSIEXEC /X [GUID]
- install the new version, for example using MSIEXEC /I
MESSENGER.MSI
I could make this easier.

Would this work OK? Windows Live Setup installs a load of auxiliary
components, (ChoiceGuard, wllogin.msi, etc) Using my method, these
won't be uninstalled or reinstalled; I would only install the core
Windows Live Messenger.

I'll try to get this working this afternoon, but I'm a little anxious
that I won't know for sure *until* the upgrade prompt for version 14.0
begins to be rolled out in late October.
