Can't disable Messenger

Hi Stephen,
I use Windows Live Mail (Hotmail) with Internet Explorer, not MSN Explorer.
I did what you suggested under sign in, but it won't let me uncheck them
all, the "Open window live messenger main window when Live Messenger starts"
remains checked.
I don't use Messenger at all.

Microsoft did a bunch of renaming a year, or more, ago: "Windows Live Mail"
is now a desktop email client. "Hotmail" is now, "Windows Live Hotmail".

If you don't use it, remove it. If you are referring to "Windows Live
Messenger", it is a component of "Windows Live Essentials", listed in your
"Add/Remove Programs". When you click the "Remove" button, and follow the
Wizard prompts, you will be offered a list of installed components of
"Windows Live Essentials". Place a check in the box beside "Windows Live
Messsenger" and proceed. Only those components you select for removal will
be removed.

If you are referring to Windows Messenger 4.x, that is a component
controlled under the "Add/Remove Windows Components" icon. Click on that
icon, and scroll down through the list; Windows Messenger is usually at the
end of the list. Clear the check from the box and "Apply", or "OK" your way
out of the menus.
