| | updates? cause log in errors I am at home on a HP Notebook using Vista and connecting wireless through a Netgear router. 2 things have changed in the last 2 days. I added a Playstation 3 and a XBox360 to the network and I got a lot of updates yesterday, my Windows Live Messenger was working fine, (I use it several hours a day to work with a colleague) after the updates, I can't sign in. I got error 81000378 (your contact list contact list is unavailable). I did a little research and tracked down connection problems and it was suggested I register the appropriate DLL files. I wound up with these error messages: the first one was after using the command prompt for regsvr32 wintrust.dll the error was 0x80070005 the next one was regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll and the error was 0x8004005 and finally regsvr32 inipki.dll the error is "specified modules cant be found" I searched the errors on Google but I really don't understand what to do. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Glenda |

I myself had an update done for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 (update KB973924) and after that Windows Live Messenger gave an Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 error and wouldn't start. Removed the update and everything was fine again. Menno |

I will try uninstalling Messenger and installing it again and see if that helps. I tried signing in with another ID that had just worked on another pc and it wouldn’t sign in for that id either. I am convinced it is a recently changed connection issue caused by an update so I don’t know if installing again will work. I will update the post. Thanks, Glenda |
